Description
Huang Binhong, a mentor to Jiang Eshi, was a distinguished painter who reinvigorated the Chinese literati painting tradition in the 20th century. In these landscapes, Huang brought a fresh perspective to the genre, pairing 13th- and 14th-century techniques with a distinctive liveliness and sketch-like quality. Huang was well-versed in imagery and concepts from Western art, which contributed to what he called “the order within disorder”—the spontaneity and abstract expressiveness that
characterize his works.
